Thunder Bay CEDC to Make Strong Impact at CEN CAN 2024

Monday, September 9 – The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) is preparing for a significant presence at the highly anticipated CEN CAN Conference, set to take place on September 11th and 12th, 2024. This year, the CEDC is taking an active role by supporting the event through a variety of initiatives, including sponsorship, booth presence, and key events.

During the two-day conference, the CEDC will solidify its presence through several initiatives:

  • Visit our welcome booth, proudly in collaboration with Tourism Thunder Bay. Our team, easily identified by their distinctive blue blazers, will be circulating throughout the trade floor to provide information and answer questions about business opportunities in Thunder Bay.
  • Hosting an information session with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development for employers looking to attract and retain foreign workers in Canada.
  • Hosting Minister’s Round Table to discuss the future of mining in Northwestern Ontario.
  • Leading a youth tour for high school students, aimed at showcasing the diverse and rewarding career opportunities within the mining and natural resources sectors.
  • Sponsoring the Minister’s lunch, which will feature a comprehensive Mining Update for the region, offering attendees critical insights into the latest developments and future prospects in the industry.
  • Supported the event through the CEDC Tourism Development Fund by providing $50,000 in funding.

“These efforts further solidify the CEDC as the liaison for companies looking to grow or locate in Thunder Bay,” stated Jamie Taylor, CEO of Thunder Bay CEDC. “With our strong mine service and supply offerings, it is essential we highlight Thunder Bay as a hub for mining and exploration in the region. Through these events and initiatives, we aim to showcase opportunities for service and supply while boosting support for mining and natural resources sectors in Northwestern Ontario.”

CEN CAN, the largest conference of its kind held in Thunder Bay, underscores the city’s capacity to host high-caliber events and meetings. The Central Canada Resource Expo will bring together professionals from the mining, energy, and construction sectors to network, exchange ideas, and collaborate across industries. With onsite demonstrations, presentations on critical topics, networking opportunities, a job fair, and over 300 exhibits, CEN CAN 2024 is an event not to be missed.
