Thunder Bay CEDC Strengthening Local Mining Connections
The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) hosted the second annual Thunder Bay Mining Connections: Reverse Expo today, an event designed to strengthen the region’s mining supply chain by connecting local service and supply companies directly with active mining operations.
The event provided Thunder Bay businesses with a unique opportunity to meet one-on-one with regional mining companies, learn about upcoming projects, and gain insights into supplier needs across Northwestern Ontario’s growing mining sector.
The Reverse Expo brought together over 20 local companies and three local organizations, connecting them with four active mining operations. Participants were carefully selected based on the specific needs of the mines and had to apply to take part. These direct connections provided an invaluable opportunity for local businesses to learn how to become preferred vendors and to build meaningful, long-term relationships within the mining industry.
“As champions for local growth, we leverage our knowledge and expertise to position Thunder Bay as the best small city in Canada to do business,” said Jamie Taylor, CEO, Thunder Bay CEDC. “We have an amazing network of more than 400 service and supply companies, and we want to ensure mining operations across Northwestern Ontario know about and utilize the incredible talent and capacity that exists right here in Thunder Bay.”
The Reverse Expo reflected CEDC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Thunder Bay’s local economy by fostering collaboration and creating opportunities within the region’s high-growth sectors—particularly mining, which continues to drive significant investment and job creation.
