The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) is pleased to once again support the Central Canada Resource Expo (Cen-Can), Thunder Bay’s largest mining, forestry and energy conference, taking place September 9–10, 2026.
Cen-Can brings industry leaders, businesses, suppliers, employers and professionals together to showcase opportunities across Northwestern Ontario’s resource sectors. The CEDC works closely with event organizers to help ensure a successful event while leveraging the conference to support local businesses, strengthen industry connections, showcase career opportunities and attract visitors to Thunder Bay.
“Large events like Cen-Can are a great example of how our entire organization comes together to support economic growth in Thunder Bay,” said Jamie Taylor, CEO, Thunder Bay CEDC. “Our Business, Community and Tourism Development teams each play a role in making the event a success—from connecting local businesses with industry opportunities and introducing youth to careers in our key sectors, to supporting the event’s ability to attract visitors and investment to the city.”
CEDC’s Business Development team will be on the trade show floor in their blue blazers connecting with local service and supply companies, industry representatives and potential investors. Through these conversations, the team works to better understand current industry needs, identify opportunities for Thunder Bay businesses and strengthen connections across the mining, forestry and energy sectors.
The Community Development team will connect local high school students with the event through planned excursions from local high schools. This provides an opportunity for youth to explore some of Thunder Bay’s key employment sectors and speak directly with employers and industry professionals about potential career paths close to home.
Through the Tourism Development Fund, CEDC’s Tourism Development team is also providing financial support to Cen-Can, recognizing the important role major conferences and events play in attracting visitors, generating economic activity and showcasing Thunder Bay as a destination for business events.
Throughout the two-day conference, members of the CEDC team will be on site at the CEDC booth and throughout the event, connecting with attendees, supporting local businesses and helping visitors learn more about the opportunities available in Thunder Bay.
Visit the Thunder Bay CEDC booth at Cen-Can on September 9 and 10 to connect with our team and learn more about doing business, building a career and investing in Thunder Bay.
