The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) is pleased to announce it has successfully secured the Thunder Bay District Census Division’s participation in the 2026–2027 Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) initiative, delivered through Ontario’s Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
Designed to help regional communities attract and retain skilled international talent, the initiative will provide the Thunder Bay District with an expected allocation of 150 immigration nominations in 2027. This will create additional opportunities for local employers to address critical workforce shortages while providing eligible foreign workers with a pathway to permanent residence.
“Being selected to participate in the REDI initiative is an important opportunity for Thunder Bay and the surrounding region,” said Jamie Taylor, CEO, Thunder Bay CEDC. “Access to skilled talent is essential to supporting business growth, attracting investment and strengthening our regional economy. Immigration plays an important role in addressing workforce challenges, and this initiative provides another valuable tool to help local employers access the talent they need while welcoming newcomers who will contribute to the long-term prosperity of our communities.”
REDI will also encourage greater collaboration among regional partners, increase awareness of the OINP and support long-term economic development throughout the Thunder Bay District.
Employers and stakeholders interested in learning more about the initiative or scheduling an employer consultation are encouraged to contact the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program at immigration.ontario@ontario.ca.
