Elementary & High School Level
For school age students, Lakehead District School Board and the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board offer welcoming settings. The French school board, Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales, runs both an elementary and a high school in Thunder Bay, as well as six additional schools throughout the Thunder Bay district. Native language classes where students learn Ojibwe dialects from Northern Ontario are also available. Further, specialized programs are offered for Indigenous students and students with special needs.
Post-Secondary Level
Post-Secondary students have their choice of a wide range of diploma and undergraduate degree programs in Thunder Bay. Confederation College offers career-focused education programs, from apprenticeships to diplomas, degrees to post-graduate certificates, continuing education and part-time studies. Lakehead University offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs including sciences, business, medical and law degrees. The Northern Ontario School of Medicine and the Lakehead University Law School are based in Thunder Bay.
Continuing Education & Training
There are many co-operative education, apprenticeship, adult education and online learning programs available in Thunder Bay. The city also offers arts, cultural and recreational programs for people of all ages who want to develop new skills.
