Networking Event Aims to Retain Healthcare Professionals

Thursday December 20, 2018 – The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) hosted the 17th Annual Home for the Holidays Healthcare Career Fair today at the Victoria Inn.

Healthcare students, professionals, physicians, and recent graduates attended the networking event, having the opportunity to meet and talk to 28 exhibiting healthcare organizations from Thunder Bay and throughout the region. Home for the Holidays initially started as a reception for local medical students attending school outside of Thunder Bay, but has expanded to respond to the health recruitment needs of Northwestern Ontario.

Local exhibitors included St. Joseph’s Care Group, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and the City of Thunder Bay. Recruiters from Geraldton District Hospital, Kenora All Nations Health Partners, Marathon Family Health Team, Dryden Regional Health Centre, and Atikokan General Hospital represented regional communities.

“There are more people employed in healthcare than any other sector in Thunder Bay,” said Lexie Penko, Community Health Sciences Recruiter for Thunder Bay CEDC. “The healthcare here is world-class and we want students and professionals to know that there are careers here for them.”
